Banana Leaf Sushi Rolls


Sushi Rolls with flavoured rice, chunks of chicken, goodness of greens...

And the fresh flavour of banana leaf.

Lets start with the tempting rolls..




Ingredients for Sushi Rolls:

There are 4 main components for this dish -

  1. Steamed rice
  2. Flavoured rice
  3. Greens - Spinach
  4. Chicken chunks

1.For Steamed Rice - 
  • Rice - 1 cup
  • Salt, as per taste
  • Water - 2 cup
  • Cook the rice in cooker.
  • Rice should be soft.
  • Mix 2 tsp of butter to rice.
2. For Flavoured Rice -

  • Rice - 1 cup
  • Star anise - 1
  • Cinnamon stick - 1/2 inch
  • Capsicum - 1/4 cup
  • Onion - 1/4 cup, grated
  • Green Chilli
  • Garlic - 2 cloves
  • Salt, as per taste
  • Water - 2 cup
  • Butter - 2 tsp
  • Colour - Orange
  • Heat butter in cooker. Add cinnamon stick and star anise.
  • Add garlic, green chilli, capsicum and onion. Fry till light brown.
  • Add rice and few drops of colour.
  • Add water and cook.
3. For Sauteed Spinach-

  • Onions - 1, finely sliced
  • Spinach - 1 cup, Sliced
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, chopped
  • Ginger - 1/4 inch, juliennes
  • Butter - 2 tsp
  • Heat butter in a pan.
  • Add ginger and garlic. Fry till golden.
  • Add onions, fry till soft.
  • Now add the spinach and cook till soft.
  • Add salt, chilli powder and black pepper powder.
  • Sprinkle a pinch of sugar.
  • Cook for 5 minutes.
4. For Chicken chunks - 
  • Chicken - 1/2 cup, sliced
  • Green chilli and Onion - paste
  • Ginger - paste
  • Garlic - paste
  • Oil
  • Lemon juice - 1 tsp
  • Salt, as per taste
  • Marinate the chicken with all the ingredients for at least 30 minutes.
  • Heat oil in a pan and saute the marinated chicken till soft.
Final steps - 
  • Take a banana leaf. Cut it into half or cut it into a square shape.
  • Put a layer of steamed rice. And press the rice to make a plain layer.
  • Now evenly put flavoured rice as 2nd layer and similarly put pressure to make a plain layer.
  • Put sauteed spinach and chicken chunks in the centre.
  • Start rolling the banana leaf. 
  • Take a thread and tie the roll.
  • In a cooker, add water and place the banana roll in a bowl.
  • Place it in the cooker.
  • Steam it till 5 minutes, so that the flavour of  banana leaf gets mixed with the rice.
  • Serve it hot.
