Today's recipe - Basket Chaat.
Chaat is a savory snacks, which is served at road-side stalls and food carts in India. Chaat is mix of different flavours and is delicious in taste.
So let's start with the steps:
Ingredients for Basket Chaat:
- Potatoes - 2, grated
- Boiled potatoes - 2
- Chick peas, boiled
- Tomato - 1, chopped
- Onion - 1, chopped
- Ginger - 1/2 inch, chopped
- Garlic - 1 clove, chopped
- Green chilli - 1, chopped
- Chaat Masala
- Cumin seeds
- Cumin powder
- Chilli powder
- Turmeric powder
- Salt, as per taste
- Curd - 1 Cup
- Sugar
- Tamarind chutney (sauce)
- Papdi (Fried Crisps)
- Pomegranate seeds
- Coriander leaves, chopped
- Sev namkeen, to garnish
- Oil
Let's follow the steps:
- Heat oil in a pan and put cumin seeds, ginger, garlic, and green chillies. Fry for 1 minute.
- Now add chopped onions and fry till soft. Once onions are cooked, add tomatoes.
- Next put boiled potatoes with turmeric powder, chilli powder, cumin powder, salt and chaat masala.
- Mix all the ingredients and mash the potatoes. Add boiled chick peas.
- Fry potatoes for 5 minutes.
- Grate potatoes and keep it in a bowl with water.
- Take the grated potatoes and squeeze out all the water.
- Place the grated potatoes in a stainless steel strainer all over.
- Top it with another small strainer, so that it becomes firm and forms a basket shape.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan.
- Fry the basket till golden brown and crisped.
- Once done, take it out in a plate.
- Take curd in a bowl, add sugar and chilli powder in it. Whisk it till smooth.
- Place the basket in a plate, fill it with the mashed potatoes filling.
- Put crushed papdis over it.
- Top it with curd and tamarind chutney.
- Tips: You can also put tomato sauce also
- Sprinkle Chaat masala over it.
- Garnish it with sliced onions, chopped coriander leaves, sev namkeen and pomegranate seeds.
